HUTCHINSON SAYS HE WILL OFFICIALLY FILE THIS FRIDAY AT 11 A-M IN LITTLE ROCK. MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE GATHERED TODAY FOR THE URBAN LEAGUE INSTITUTE’S ANNUAL PLACE SUMMIT- -A CONFERENCE FOCUSED ON LAND DEVELOPMENT. 40/29’S KATANI GOUCH WAS THERE AND HAS MORE. LAST YEAR THE NWA COUNCIL REPORTED THAT OVER 30 PEOPLE MOVE INTO FAYETTEVILLE EVERYDAY. THAT NUMBER CONTINUES TO GROW WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY THE URBAN LEAGUE INSTITUTE IS CULTIVATING CONVERSATIONS ABOUT LAND USE DEVELOPMENT IN NWA. áánat biteáá “we really want the Place Summit to become a place where people want to come and bring a challenge. ” THE URBAN LEAGUE INSTITUTE OR U-L-I IS AN ORGANIZATION CENTERED AROUND HELPING COMMUNITIES MAKE DECISIONS ON WHAT GETS BUILT AND WHY. ITS TWO DAY ANNUAL CONFERENCE- PLACE SUMMIT- FOCUSES ON CREATING CONVERSATIONS ABOUT IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED IN NWA áánat biteáá Roundtable discussions CITY OFFICIALS…LAND DEVELOPERS.. AND COMMUNITY ACTIVISTS WERE ALL REPRESENTED IN CONVERSATIONS TODAY. Megan Brown Director of Signature Programming ULI “really just want to be a part of this conversation and be represented in this conversation about what gets built in our environment that is reflective of everybody in our community.” MANY OF THOSE CONVERSATIONS SPARKING QUESTIONS FOCUSED ON NWA’S GROWING POPULATION “how do we have the conversations with the right people in the room to address the challenges that we have of the current population, let alone knowing that that’s just going to continue to grow?” <> “In those conversations and those decisions that we make, how do we use those to create and keep that sense of place that has been here for years, that are people that have lived there their entire lives” WHILE U-L-I IS A REGIONAL ORGANIZATION–EACH YEAR IT FOCUSES ON A CERTAIN CITY. “We are a group of built environment experts that are enthusiasts in urban…obviously that’s part of our name. So we would love to be in the downtown area celebrating what’s going on there.” LAST YEAR WAS BENTONVILLE AND THIS YEAR IS THE HILL “There’s so many conversations happening in Fayetteville or around housing, around transportation, around zoning that it was an easy choice.” COMING UP AT SIX LEARN ABOUT U-L-I’S ANNUAL SMALL CITIES INITIATIVE AND WHAT THEY’RE DOING THIS YEAR
