MAYFLOWER, AR – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) has announced the suspension of all item removal permits for Lake Conway until further notice. This suspension is linked to a controlled drawdown that began on September 1, which has successfully lowered the lake’s water level to facilitate cultural resource surveys.

These surveys are essential for the permitting process, coordinated through the U.S. Army Corps Engineers with contributions from the State Historic Preservation Office and other partners. The AGFC is committed to preserving the cultural integrity of potential discoveries in the lakebed while expediting additional necessary permits.

During this project phase, the AGFC emphasizes that digging in the lakebed is prohibited, and no items are to be removed. This temporary halt aims to safeguard the area while the surveys and evaluations are conducted.

Additionally, the AGFC is working with the Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism to organize future item removal events and volunteer cleanups, contributing to the broader Lake Conway renovation project. For more information on these developments and the renovation efforts, individuals are encouraged to visit the AGFC website dedicated to Lake Conway.
